Why I wrote this book

Throughout my work, I have tried to keep a simplistic structure so that it is understandable by a wide range of readers. The book is arranged in sections to make it easier for the reader to find the area he or she finds interesting.

Very rarely, when a piece was first written, it was rare to consider it as complete and finished.
Most of my efforts needed extra time for work to polish  them and make them acceptable to my readers.

When I have not succeeded, I hope my readers will accept my apology. Many readers will relate to these poems which are concerned with real life e occurrences.

The poems have been inspired by Mary's work, travels and experiences and some have won prizes in competitions - To My Love won 1st prize in the 2009 Annual Poetry Competition of The Lancashire Authors Association. Her book is split into ten categories, including Places, Nature, War and the Army, Dreams and Fantasy and Time. Together there are over 150 poems, all thought-provoking, that take an in-depth look at everyday subjects. For then I saw the moon and stars ignite, and all creation burning with love's flame. To My LoveMary takes inspiration from a range of poets including Sylvia Plath, Carol Ann Duffy and Wilfred Owen. Fans of poetry will find something to suit whatever mood they're in with the varied range of topics and tone.

About the Author

Mary Joyce Baxter From a very early age, I have been attracted to poetry, to the rhythm  and melody of the words. I have read many poets work, both old and modern and tried to learn as much as I could about the structure and form of poetry and to put it into practice.    Because of work commitments  for many years as a nurse, (see my book, The Past Recaptured  ISBN 978-1848-761-926  Published by Matador ) I had to wait until retirement to do this.
