Why I wrote this book

My passions include music, discovering the beautiful world of which we are a part and what it means to be human. Why do we do the things we do? What makes us capable of doing those things? Could each of us become martyrs, monsters, heroes, saviours? What happens in the human brain that causes us to be the people we are and to react as we do? Does evil arise because of circumstance? Do we create and nurture it, albeit unintentionally, or can it exist from the beginning?

Power in Mind expresses these beliefs and my passion for human rights, in a romantic action thriller which takes the reader on an exciting journey across a beautiful but troubled world, both visible and unseen. My aim is for this journey to be enjoyable, beautiful, informative, thought-provoking and that it will open doors to new insights and opportunities to make the most of life.

As a practising doctor I have incorporated into my story, real medical scenarios and treatments which are current best practice and as a compassionate human being who hopes to make the world a better place for all our children, I have pledged all profits from this book to the english charity Freedom from Torture.

Power in Mind is a romantic thriller about justice and human rights. Protagonists Alesandre and Lina, lovers and soulmates, are forced into a dangerous journey from which there is no turning back. They must discover who she really is before Andras, the man who claims to be her 'true' father, catches up with them. He will stop at nothing to steal the secret hidden in Lina's genetic code and control her, to satisfy his appetite for power. Their quest takes them from Panama to Montenegro, into the heart of enemy territory, where they must interpret papers written by Lina's murdered parents to free her from the danger that her genetic code has put her in. But even then, their trials are not over. Their tormentor will never give up. He will push her to her limits, to discover what she is capable of, and then he will enslave her. In partnership with a monster whose powers match Lina's, Andras plans a series of elaborate psychic tests which will draw her to them. Unaware of the unusual gifts she possesses, Lina is quick to discover that these powers alone will save her and countless others. In the final battle of minds, she stands to lose everything - her life, her soulmate and lover.

About the Author

Susanne Burge "Married with two young boys, I am a medical doctor working in General Practice and radiotherapy in the West Country.

I was born in West Germany in 1963, to a German mother and an English father and grew up in England. I studied medicine in London, during which time I worked for some months in an Arab Hospital in Israel at the start of the first Intifada. After finishing my registration year as a doctor in 1989, I gained experience in various specialties before settling down as a partner in General Practice in the South West of England in 1992. For many years now I have also worked once a week in the radiotherapy department of our local District hospital. I am married to a civil engineer whose love of the wilderness and sea-kayaking has taken us for weeks at a time into the wilderness of Alaska, Scotland, and my husband, to Chile. We have two gorgeous sons, aged ten and twelve who keep us on our toes! My passions include music: I was once a member of the Southampton Youth Orchestra and still, when time allows, I love to play piano and cello.

As a family we enjoy walking, cycling, swimming, kayaking, reading, theatre, listening to and making music.
